Gacha whales may have to forget about clearing their backlog over the upcoming Christmas break and start to consider playing Wuthering Waves with a New Year's Day hangover, as it's been revealed the PS5 game launches on 2nd January 2025. The release will coincide with a big 2.0 update across all platforms, and cross-progression will be available on the PS5, PC, and mobile.

While the game will be free-to-play, a £7.99 / $9.99 pre-order bundle is up on the PS Store now, offering various in-game items and currencies. If past examples of these pre-launch bundles are anything to go by, they're rarely worth it. You get 500,000 Shell Credit, 10 Wuthercakes, 5 Lustrous Tide, and more. You can view the listing through the link. The new 2.0 update that coincides with the PS5 version's release brings with it a new region, named Rinascita.

About Liam Croft

Wuthering Waves Leaves No Time for Backlogs with January PS5 Release (3)

Liam grew up with a PlayStation controller in his hands and a love for Metal Gear Solid. Nowadays, he's found playing the latest and greatest PS5 games as well as supporting Derby County. That last detail is his downfall.

Looking forward to this. I've been doing dailies but holding off on a lot of quests and other things waiting for PS5 release. Hopefully it performs better than on mobile/tablet which is pretty bad with a lot of stuttering and frame dips.

I really like the game, i'm currently warry of gatcha games cuz they became to time consuming. (HSR and Genshin on my list)
I tried Wuthering Waves sightly sooner than ZZZ and have to say i prefere WuW and stayed at it - while left ZZZ after few days.
I love the character Design and Fighting mechanics a lot.
Only negative part is the Story, a lot confusing and 'mystery' chinese style. But they recived feedback and i'm looking forward to improvements.

P.S. might also mentioned it has a lot of great quality of life features~ probably the best i have seen in a gatcha game yet.

I would be lying if I said I didn't bought the Pro for this and Nikki.
Also, all the BF deals right now is already tempting for my limited time 😫 despite late to the current-gen party~ 😄

Way too late for me. I'm still for sure trying it out but I think I'm gonna have an easier time dropping this in the long run unless it's somehow a significantly better game than genshin

But tbh I'd rather Nikki be the 4th gacha I'm slaving away doing dailies for lol

Guess I could have asked Liam about Nikki, think his answer would have been the same as yours.😁

“Wuthering Waves” is the most Gatcha sounding game name ever. 😂

As I've been playing this on PC, I hope they do further reruns in 2.0 as the 5* characters unique weapons have a massive impact on how well they perform. I chose this over ZZZ and Genshin also. Can't wait to see the new area.

And now console players will have to play catch up since the game has been out for months on other platforms. I think I'll just stick to ZZZ.

How much time does everyone have ...

THIS is the problem with these games. They are all very well made and enjoyable but it's the time cost that is an issue for me. It's not really a problem if you only play ONE, or perhaps two, depending how much free time you have, but to play more than that you basically can't play much else. I know @get2sammyb has said similar in the past. It starts to feel like a job.

I just deleted Zenless Zone Zero from my PS5 and phone/tablet this morning because of this. At the end of the day the opportunity cost of playing them is just too much. ZZZ is a good game but at 300 hours already would I rather play that OR play Baldurs Gate 3, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth or CyberPunk 2077? My backlog keeps growing. And if I KEPT playing it I could play ALL of those other games, and more... or just ZZZ. It's not a good enough trade to me. YMMV.

Still playing WuWa, HSR and Genshin though! I have a problem!

It's going difficult to manage my time between this and the other two gachas I have on my PS5 (Genshin & ZZZ.) Looks like I'm gonna let go a little for ZZZ since it's fairly new and I always purposely stall for additional content.
