ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series,33rd annual Matco Tools SuperNationals presented by Racing Champions listing lane,driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run,best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: David Strouse Jr. Runs 12.997/58.95, Now #31; Best priorrun: 6.950/200.29, Was #31
It is 45 degrees at 85 percent humidity. The barometric pressure is29.75 and rising. Strouse shook the tires at 100 feet and shut it down.
Left Lane: Charlie Greco Runs 7.135/196.02, Now #29; Best prior run:6.935/200.71, Was #29
Right Lane: Bob Benza Runs 7.426/143.43, Now #33; Best prior run:7.400/168.66, Was #33
The bump is 6.887 and neither driver came close in round one. Benza gotloose at the top end and used the entire width of his lane.
Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.870/200.02, Now #10; Best prior run:6.932/200.53, Was #26
Right Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.989/195.73, Now #32; Best prior run:6.995/195.48, Was #32
Watson was loose the whole way down the track. Morgan had the car setup this time and he put himself in the middle of the field.
Left Lane: Arturo Delgado Runs 10.510/85.24, Now #26; Best prior run:6.931/198.99, Was #26
Right Lane: Robert Patrick Runs 7.690/134.70, Now #30; Best prior run:6.935/200.26, Was #30
Both drivers shook the tires. Delgado shook hard enough that he wasdancing all over his lane. Patrick didn't shake as hard but still hard enough thathe had to back off.
Left Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.834/201.64, Now #1; Best prior run:6.916/200.35, Was #24
Right Lane: Tom Lee Runs 6.902/199.94, Now #22; Best prior run:6.934/199.37, Was #28
Coughlin had a good 60 foot time even though he lifted the front endand shook the tires a bit coming off the line. He held it together for the rest ofthe run and took over the number one spot for now. With last night's top qualifiersstill to come, we'll have to see how long he can hold onto the top spot.
Left Lane: John Nobile Runs 6.871/200.71, Now #12; Best prior run:6.912/200.11, Was #25
Right Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 11.281/78.37, Now #28; Best prior run:6.934/199.97, Was #28
Koretsky got really loose and had to get off the throttle to avoidhitting the wall. Nobile pushed Nance out of the field. The bump time is now 6.881seconds.
Left Lane: Tom Martino Runs 6.885/201.04, Now #18; Best prior run:6.912/201.04, Was #25
Right Lane: Tom Hammonds Runs 7.490/142.51, Now #26; Best prior run:6.918/200.35, Was #26
Hammonds got loose and was swinging the rear end of his car at 1,000feet. Martino stayed straight but was not quick enough to make the show.
Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.889/200.86, Now #23; Best prior run:6.894/200.23, Was #23
Right Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.877/182.70, Now #15; Best prior run:6.909/200.08, Was #25
Pawuk made the field in the 15th spot but that might not be enough tostay in the show. He'll have to improve that in the last qualifying session if hewants to be sure.
Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.840/197.65, Now #3; Best prior run:6.888/201.22, Was #22
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.853/198.70, Now #8; Best prior run:6.889/199.37, Was #24
Both drivers were on the outside looking in before this round. Aftertheir runs, both are in the lanes and they've bumped two drivers out of thefield.
Left Lane: Larry Nance Runs 13.114/64.97, Now #20; Best prior run:6.882/200.32, Was #20
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 7.520/141.71, Now #23; Best prior run:6.887/201.79, Was #23
Nance shook the tires and came very close to the wall so he had tolift. In the right lane, which has been the tricky lane all morning, Krisher gotvery loose and had to back off.
Left Lane: Jamie Yates Runs 7.065/166.05, Now #20; Best prior run:6.881/200.11, Was #19
Right Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 6.856/200.08, Now #10; Best prior run:6.885/199.64, Was #22
Yates drifted toward the center line and got out of the groove. He gotloose and started to wag the rear of the car so he pulled the chute early. Stevensshook the tires at the start but got it back and put himself into thefield.
Left Lane: Darrell Alderman Runs 9.107/102.59, Now #19; Best priorrun: 6.878/201.13, Was #19
Right Lane: Mark Whisnant Runs 8.489/114.35, Now #16; Best prior run:6.873/201.37, Was #16
Both drivers shook the tires and both backed off.
Left Lane: Gene Wilson Runs 6.846/201.64, Now #5; Best prior run:6.874/201.04, Was #17
Right Lane: Mark Osborne Runs 6.820/201.04, Now #1; Best prior run:6.870/200.95, Was #13
Osborne had a very smooth run and recorded the quickest Pro Stock ET ofthe weekend so far. Wilson also had a good run and got himself back into the fieldafter being bumped earlier.
Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.783/203.03, Now #1; Best prior run:6.858/201.97, Was #13
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.851/200.29, Now #9; Best prior run:6.870/201.43, Was #14
Johnson had both ends of the track record and ran his career low ET onthis run. It was WJ's first 6.7 second ET.
Left Lane: George Marnell Runs 6.818/200.44, Now #3; Best prior run:6.855/200.77, Was #13
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.800/202.24, Now #2; Best prior run:6.851/201.22, Was #8
Johnson missed the 6.7s by just one thousandth of a second. The timesare getting quicker now as Marnell also had a good run to move up to numberthree.
Left Lane: JR Carr Runs 8.345/113.78, Now #12; Best prior run:6.852/201.10, Was #12
Right Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 9.524/97.55, Now #9; Best prior run:6.850/200.89, Was #9
Allen shook the tires coming off the line, got loose and had to backoff. Carr came off the line okay but got very loose at mid-track and came close tocrossing the center line.
Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 10.058/90.87, Now #11; Best prior run:6.852/201.82, Was #11
Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.774/202.36, Now #1; Best prior run:6.836/201.49, Was #6
Johnson came off the line dancing and had to shut down. Yates lookedlike he was on a rope and had the quickest ET of the weekend. He missed matchinghis career best ET by one thousandth of a second.
