Two drivers have been caught doing excess of 100mph on a Scots motorway after a clampdown by road cops.
Motorists were stopped on a major route through Lanarkshire by Police Scotland Lanarkshire Division on Sunday, March 23. A red Mercedes car were clocked doing 111mph - more than 40mph over the speed limit. Whilst a BMW was stung by road police doing 100mph on the same stretch of motorway.
Road police officers said the pair "clearly thought they were on a race track." They shared images of the two cars pulled over just 20 minutes apart as they issued a stark warning to drivers. In both images the speed detector device used by cops can be seen with the speeds clearly shown.
A post shared on Police Scotland Lanarkshire social media reads: "As part of the National Speeding Campaign #LanarkshireRP have been conduction various speed checks. Their attention was particularly drawn to these two vehicles today that clearly thought they were on a race track."
Officers added that the two drivers were reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Road cops were out in force across Scotland as part of a weeklong campaign aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of speeding.
Police Scotland's National Speeding Campaign took place from Monday, March 17 to March 23. The campaign focused on the severe risks posed by excessive speed and how it contributes to horror crashes, serious injury and deaths on roads.
Last week police in Renfrewshire caught a driver speeding along the M8 near Langbank doing 109mph. Officers said the driver was going so fast that they never even noticed their large road policing vehicle as they raced past.
A post on Police Scotland Renfrewshire stated: "Numerous drivers have been stopped so far this week, including this driver who we can only assume was trying to take off and fly at the velocity they were travelling at today.
"Travelling at 109MPH they clearly didn't observe the large X5 stationary on the raised motorway observation point on the M8 near Langbank. If they cant see a large blue and yellow Road Policing Vehicle - what else will they miss?
"The driver was stopped near Junction 31 and reported to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service."
Elsewhere efforts were made in the Highlands to highlight the importance of Scots motorists adhering to speed limits.
Officers were stationed on key routes across the Highlands monitoring drivers speeds and enforcing fines on speeders.
Sergeant Calum MacAulay, Road Policing, “Speeding continues to be a significant factor in many serious and fatal injury collisions across the Highlands and Islands.
"Driving at excessive speeds reduces a driver’s ability to react quickly to hazards, increases stopping distances, and can lead to far more severe outcomes in the event of a collision. Statistics reveal that a higher speed at the time of impact dramatically increases the likelihood of serious injuries or fatalities, even in seemingly minor accidents.”
